Time’s A Ticking: My “30 Before 30” List

30 Before 30As previously mentioned, I’ll be turning thirty later this year and even though I’ve lived an eventful life thus far, there are still a few things I’d like to either do for the first time or revisit under different circumstances.

So here’s my list:

1.) Travel abroad.

Previous attempts at this have fallen through when others backed out but this is actually a gift to myself this year, so even if I have to roll solo, I’m out.

2.) Finish and self-publish my book. 

I’m finally in the finishing stages so I’m really excited about this one!

3.) Let go of the past. 

Even though it sounds cliché, I’ve spent most of my 20s pining over a tragic loss that I can’t change. Let’s just say, I’ve moved on but not completely and don’t want to carry it into my 30s.

4.) Meditate more.

With all the health risks associated with stress and because I tend to hold everything in, I definitely need to explore this practice more. Weekly yoga classes and meditation moments are definitely on the horizon.

5.) Reinvent my style.

After having kids, I went into full mommy mode. Between that, work and school, I’m just now starting to get my sexy back as they say. What better way to do that than to revamp my closet?!?!

6.) Color my hair. 

Highlights to be exact. I’m thinking either a golden brown or dark red.

7.) Catch up on my reading list.

I used to be an avid reader but not so much as of late. I have a few titles in cue that I’d like to complete.

8.) Take a dance class.

I have absolutely no coordination but I’ve always admired the art of dance and swear I’d be the bomb dancer in another life.

9.) Spruce up a few things around the house. 

Thanks to Pinterest, I’m in the mood to re-decorate! A few coats of paint, some new artwork, etc.

10.) Host a house party. 

I’ve attended several house parties in my day but have never hosted one. I blame my only child syndrome and mild case of OCD.

11.) Bake a cake.

I can cook but I’ve never really been big on baking and I think it would be rather wholesome of me to start doing so.

12.) Do something completely random.

I’m not sure what this will be yet but in my good girl, sometimes overly planned life, a little randomness is always welcome.

13.) Train for a 5k. 

Everyone assumes that I’m in shape because I’m small and I kind of coast off that but it couldn’t be further from the truth. I wouldn’t dare commit to actually running a 5k before my birthday but the training part I can do.

14.) Get a bicycle.

Because it’s a fun and easy way to stay active.

15.) Indoor rock-climbing.

I’m too chicken to do the real thing but I figure an indoor adventure would be just as fun.

16.) Volunteer more. 

I’m really passionate about Suicide Prevention and Children’s Literacy but haven’t dedicated nearly enough volunteer time as I would like.

18.) Have a romantic weekend cabin getaway. 

Just the two of us, unplugged and unbothered by the everyday hustle and bustle.

19.) Watch movies from the 90s/early 2000’s. 

I grew up extremely sheltered so I know nothing about most movies referenced in general conversation. To give you an idea of how deep this runs, I just recently watched Coming To America and the first Friday.

20.) Attend a wine tasting event. 

My love for wine has grown immensely in the past few years and so should my wine selections.

21.) Spark a conversation with a complete stranger.

I’m really good at talking once someone else has already broken the ice but I want to be the ice breaker for a change.

22.) Do my own landscaping. 

Just the flower beds though. I’m not really an outdoors kind of girl.

23.) Take a photography class.

This one is thanks to my photographer friend who gives me such grief about my picture-taking skills and the fact that I don’t like to not be good at something.

24.) Have a boudoir photography session.

Simply because I think it would be liberating.

25.) Attend a concert/sporting event away from home.

I’m thinking a road trip to SXSW next month will do the trick.

26.) Do karaoke.

Stage fright will not get the best of me.

27.) Hang out with friends more. 

I can be terrible at this at times. I’m a good friend but not a good hang out friend, if that makes any sense.

28.) Learn how to shoot pool. 

Shooting pool always seemed very sexy to me. I’ve played a couple of times but will need some more practice to get really good.

29.) Start playing the piano again. 

It’s been ten years since I last played but the ivories have been calling.

30.) Ride a mechanical bull. 

Not really sure why this is important to me but it is. #DontJudgeMe

There you have it!

I’m going to be a busy bee for the next few months but I took special care to choose things that were doable or already in the works so as not to set myself up for failure. Stay tuned for updates as I make my way through the list before my big day.

  1. Love! I have so many additional things that I would love to add to my list! Take a photography class would be so much fun and perfect for your blog! Sounds like a perfect way to end your twenties with a bang!
