Don’t Believe Me, Just Watch…

Seeing as how my weekend was good but certainly nothing to write home about, I decided to forego my usual Weekend Recap post today and vent a little about a recent conversation that ruffled my feathers.

One of my close friends had the audacity to question my career path and lifelong goal of being a journalist by saying,

I don’t see how you’re going to make it in the industry.

This really came as a slap in the face to me for two reasons. The first being that I have been nothing but supportive of them in ALL of their endeavors. Never once questioning their ability to succeed. Secondly, this same friend JUST decided to get their feet wet in the very same industry whereas this is something I’ve been involved in for as long as I can remember.

Even as annoying as they are, I have always been able to handle naysayers with a positive attitude but a naysayer in my own camp??? That really runs me hot!!! 😤😤😤

Hence the title…

Don’t Believe Me, Just Watch!

Join me next week for our regularly scheduled Monday morning post.

  1. I always have profound compassion for people around me giving me “advice”. I look at it in that perspective: they care about me, they don’t want me to fail, they just don’t know how to say it.
Also, they project on us their own fears or are just the mirror of our own.

So I thank them for their concern and commitment to my happiness and reassure them that I don’t act random, I have a plan and that it may not always be easy but their support are welcome anytime. (No irony of course).

Smile, give her a big hug and ask her how she is doing and if she needs any support. 😉

    With great respect!

  2. Someone I once truly cared about ridiculed and belittled me because of my aspirations and dreams. I’d always been supportive of hers … even to the point of self-sacrifice, believe it or not. (Yes, I know – foolish, but still …)

Her words, even some three to four months later – still ring in my ears: “Quit dreamin’ and get a REAL job! Why do you wanna write anyway … nobody’s gonna read it!” The irony is that I’ve always HAD a “real job” … I’ve been dying slowly in Corporate America’s wastelands for the last twenty-five years.

When we broke up, I made a decision: I’m doing this. Come Hell or high water, I’m doing this. I’m doing this for ME.

Faster. Further. Higher. Beyond. )nods) Excellent entry, Ms. Devereaux … I know *exactly* how it feels.
